The Modern World are a Mod tribute band from South Manchester, focusing mainly on the music of
The Jam, Paul Weller, Small Faces and The Who.

They were formed early in 2007 by Dave Prime (guitar/lead vocals), Chris Fry (bass/vocals) and Keith Miller (drums), and started gigging around Manchester in the autumn of 2007.

All three founder members have years of gigging experience between them, with Dave and Chris being former colleagues for a number of years in bands on the South Manchester circuit.

Although Dave and Chris ensured that songs by The Jam, Small Faces and other mod artists appeared on their previous bands' setlists, other band members did not share the same influences and they were never able to develop in the direction they wanted. Keith had previously played in a band that played Jam and Kinks cover versions but had not done so for a number of years.

At the end of 2006, a chance discussion between Chris and Keith about their musical influences quickly led to a jam session with Dave to see whether things might develop. It only took a few minutes for the three of them to realise that their collective ambition to form a mod tribute band would now become a reality.

All band members have busy full time jobs, but by fitting in rehearsals wherever possible over the following months, they were able to develop a set of well over 30 songs. With the addition of keyboards on a number of songs, the band played some initial gigs around Manchester at the end of 2007.

These initial gigs met with enthusiastic responses, and having settled on the name The Modern World, they have gigged regularly around South Manchester throughout the first half of 2008. The band have now added a slideshow to add an extra dimension to their live set and are currently obtaining bookings for gigs further afield from the South Manchester pubs they have played to date. They have also received interest from a number of scooter clubs and hope to play at some scooter club events later in the year. Although they have yet to record in the studio, the band have recently recorded some live songs, which can be accessed in the Sounds' section.
